What is PPF?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a multi-stage film that transforms the surface of a vehicle into a protected, "self-healing" canvas. In 2025, professional installations typically follow a rigorous sequence of preparation, precision fitting, and curing to ensure an invisible and durable finish. Whether PPF or Vinyl, the choice is yours! What's the difference between PPF & Vinyl Wrap?
PPF (Paint Protection Film) offers superior impact/chip resistance, self-healing, and longevity (5-10 yrs) but is pricier, while vinyl wrap excels in affordability and vast color/texture customization for aesthetic changes, lasting 2-5 years with less protection. Think of PPF as armor for your paint (even in colored options), whereas vinyl is a stylish, removable skin for your car, best for looks over heavy-duty defense.
The Process
1. Surface Preparation (The Foundation)
The quality of a PPF install is 90% preparation. We make sure to make sure the vehicle is spotless because any speck of dust or imperfection left on the paint will be permanently sealed under the film.
-
Decontamination Wash: Your vehicle is thoroughly washed to remove surface dirt.
-
Clay Bar Treatment: A clay bar is used to pull out "bonded" contaminants like tree sap, iron fallout, and industrial grime.
-
Paint Correction: Our professionals perform a multi-stage polish to remove swirl marks and scratches, ensuring the paint is in pristine condition before it is "locked in" by the film.
-
Component Removal: To achieve a "seamless" look, badges, door handles, and trim may be temporarily removed so the film can be tucked behind them.
2. Film Cutting and Design
Our installers use one of two methods to get the film to the right size:
-
Pre-Cut Templates: A computer plotter cuts the film based on precise digital designs for specific vehicle models.
-
Bulk/Custom Cut: A large sheet is applied to the panel, and the installer manually trims the edges. This is often preferred for custom wraps to allow for deeper "tucks" around edges.
3. The Application (Wet Method)
Your PPF film is applied using a "wet" method to allow for repositioning.
-
Slip and Tack Solutions: Our installers use a "slip" solution (usually water and baby shampoo) to float the film into place, followed by a "tack" solution (water and isopropyl alcohol) to lock the edges.
-
Squeegeeing: Using specialized squeegees, our installer pushes out the liquid and air from the center toward the edges to create a vacuum-sealed bond.
-
Stretching and Heating: Heat guns are used to make the film more pliable, allowing it to conform to complex curves and recessed areas without creating wrinkles or "fingers".
4. Finishing and Curing
-
Edge Tucking: Excess film is wrapped around the edges of panels (like the hood or fenders) for a truly invisible finish.
-
Quality Check: Our technicians inspect your vehicle under specialized lighting for any bubbles or lifting edges.
-
Curing Period: Your vehicle typically stays in a temperature-controlled environment for 24 to 48 hours to allow the adhesive to fully bond. You should not wash the car for at least 7 days after installation.
